TEEN PROGRAMS

College Essay Workshops

CFP College Essay Workshops are designed to help teenagers tackle the college admissions essay. We have three sessions this fall that will take students from the brainstorming and ideas phase, through the revision process, and to a final version they can use for their college applications. We recommend students enroll in all three (CFP offers a discount if you sign up as a bundle—use promotion code CEW25 at checkout).

To enroll in the three Wednesday sessions, click here; to enroll in the three Sunday sessions, click here. Or to enroll in an individual workshop, click on the date below the session description. These workshops are most appropriate for current high school seniors.

  • Getting Started

Spend a couple of hours exploring what makes an effective college essay and start crafting your own piece. Students will leave the workshop with a solid grasp of the college essay and the beginnings of a first draft in hand.

    Wednesday Session | 9/24, 5-7pm

    OR

    Sunday Session | 9/28, 1-3pm

  • Messy Middle: Revising

You’ve written draft 1–now what? Working alongside others, you’ll get ideas on organization and content, and will figure out how to move draft 1 into a better version of itself. Individual and group activities will support this “messy middle” of the college essay writing process.

    Wednesday Session | 10/8, 5-7pm

    OR

    Sunday Session | 10/5, 1-3pm

  • Facing the Final Draft

In this two-hour session, students will engage in revision activities to nudge their college essay drafts closer to submission. Experts will be on hand for one-on-one writing conferences, and students will also work through peer feedback.

    Wednesday Session | 10/29, 5-7pm

    OR

    Sunday Session | 11/2, 1-3pm
